Pointing of a VSAT on Telstar 11N

Afrikanet team

Afrikanet is proud to announce that the new satellite Telstar 11N launched last February was successfully pointed from one of its earth stations in Africa to deliver Internet service.

On Saturday 20th June 2009, after hours of hard work and dedication, the Afrikanet team in Yaoundé, Cameroon, successfully pointed the VSAT dish on the Telstar 11N.

Telstar 11N - 37.5°WL is a Ku-band satellite that covers parts of the US, Central America, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It also covers all of Europe, parts of North Africa, the majority of the sub-Saharan Africa, with focused power over South Africa and a majority of Western Africa. Telstar 11N will therefore meet the needs of commercial, government, and individual customers.
This is the first time such an achievement has been made in the history of Afrikanet with Arqiva's cooperation on the new DVB-S2 ACM Evolution X3 Technology of iDirect. In a live conference from 3 different continents, the VSAT was pointed in order to provide broadband internet to a wide range of people.

Live from Cameroon and England, combined with the help and efficiency of the Telesat company in Canada, the mission was successfully accomplished. Three skillful companies were involved in this demanding task. Arqiva, owner of the Bedford Teleport, Telesat, owner of the Telstar 11N and Afrikanet, internet broadband provider. As a result internet was introduced in Olembé; a neighbourhood in Yaoundé and will now expand to T11N coverage in sub-Saharan Africa.

Afrikanet is a rapidly growing company dedicated to bridge the digital divide between the northern and the southern hemisphere. It is very clear that inequalities between the rich north and the poorer south are numerous, but how best to tackle these injustices than by providing internet access? This is Afrikanet's greatest motivation, hence the cooperation with Arqiva and Telesat.

With Arqiva and Telesat's history and success, Afrikanet was therefore very honoured to work with these companies, and this cooperation proved to be a great accomplishment.

With this achievement in mind, Afrikanet is now ready to go further and accomplish more similar missions elsewhere in Africa.

     Afrikanet, connecting people together!

After such a success, Casimir Berthier Fotso; C.E.O of Afrikanet was very pleased with everyone's work and input. As soon as the setup of the VSAT station onto the new satellite was finalised, he congratulated  Arqiva's team and Telesat TCC.
